Five really good games, at least on paper, in the fourth week of the NFL season.During the course of most NFL weeks there might be two or three really interesting games but this week, week four of the 2009 season, has five games that are really interesting with ONE game being an almost must see game. Which game is that? We will give you a hint…Favre.! Before we get to that game let’s take a look at the other four games this weekend that have above average viewing interest. Dallas at Denver The Cowboys are considered by many to be America’s team and rightfully so. It seems like any time they are on national TV the ratings go up and this year is no different. The Cowboys are always interesting, not only because of the talent they have but because of their owner and the drama that seems to follow this team. There has not been much drama in Big D so far this year and that is probably a good thing for the Cowboys and their fans. However, Dallas has not played well this year despite being 2-1. They beat a bad Tampa Bay team, lost at home to the Giants, and struggled to beat a weak Carolina team. Dallas is led by the talented but mistake prone Tony Romo and a run game that leads the NFL through three weeks. Denver has been a MAJOR surprise. They are 3-0 with two of the wins coming against bad teams (Cleveland and Oakland) and the other win coming against a solid Cincy team….although it took a miracle for Denver to win that game. Denver’s defense has been outstanding this year but gets a major test against Dallas. Is Dallas a top notch Super Bowl contender or merely a good solid team? Are the Broncos for real? Can they beat a quality team and continue to play good defense? This game will show us. Baltimore at New England The Patriots have their work cut out for them in this game. Although they are 2-1 the Patriots have not been the typical Patriots. Tom Brady has not played really well and the Patriot defense has shown some holes. The Ravens have been lights out so far this year. They have had a really good defense for a long time but now they have a strong offense. This game has so many angles. Can Brady handle the heat the Ravens are sure to throw at him? Can Flaaco handle the defense the Patriots are sure to try to confuse him with? Are the Ravens really as good as they look? Is Brady the same QB he was a couple of years ago. This game is going to answer some of those questions. NY Jets at New Orleans This is the game where we think the Jets will prove themselves to be for real or just pretenders. The Jets have played exceptionally well this year and if they can go into New Orleans and beat a solid Saints team we think the Jets will have proven themselves for real. Mark Sanchez has been GREAT for the Jets so far this year but the best QB on the field will be Drew Brees. Brees has been phenomenal but will get a stearn test from the Jets defense this week. The Jets attack on defense from every angle you can imagine and it will be interesting to see if the Saint offense can handle a really physical Jet defense. New Orleans has some issues on defense and now we will see if the young Sanchez can go into a hostile environment and lead his team to victory. San Diego at Pittsburgh These are two very good football teams, although you would not know it by Pittsburgh’s record. The Steelers are 1-2 and even in their win did not look really good. The Steelers and Chargers played twice last year with the Chargers winning the regular season matchup in Pittsburgh and the Steelers winning the playoff matchup. These teams seem to be developing a really good rivalry and it will be interesting to see if the Steelers can get their offense untracked. They have not run the ball well at all this year and they have not had enough big plays in the passing game. The Chargers are chasing the Denver Broncos in the AFC West and have the very talened Philip Rivers as their QB. Rivers might be the most underrated player in the NFL. Last year he led the league in passing and did not go to the Pro Bowl. How does that happen? Rivers and the Chargers seem to make big play after big play in the passing game and they are going to need that this week. The Charges defense has not been dominant but they are good enough to slow the Steeler offense down. Now the question is can the Charger offense do enough against the Steeler defense to get the win in Pittsburgh. The Steelers are not in desperation mode, but going 1-3 to start the season would put them in a huge hole. And now the game EVERYONE will be talking about! When Brett Favre decided to come back and play with the Vikings everyone associated with televising a Minnesota game was really happy…but none could have been happier than the ESPN crew. You just know they will be yapping about this game for hours and hours and hours before game time….and rightfully so. This game has so much intrigue…not as much as when Favre goes back to Green Bay…but close. Both of these teams are good. The Vikings might be really good. And the Packers are solid. Both teams are in the same division so besides having the Favre deal going this is an important game from a standings perspective. Farve is where he wanted to be and the Vikings are benefitting tremendously from that. No matter what you say about Favre he wins football games with plays that will make your head spin. Not many QB’s would have made the throw that won the game last week. The Packers are really happy with Rodgers and they should be. He has established himself as a top QB and is one of the best young QB’s in the league. The relationship between Favre and Rodges has not always been good so this angle by itself is interesting. You just know the Packers want to put the hurt on Farve and the Vikings in the worse way. Farve did not leave the Packers under good terms and there are plenty of people in Green Bay that would like to see the Packers rough him up. The Vikings need Favre to stay healthy. If the Vikings can keep Favre healthy they are a really good team that has a chance to go deep into the playoffs. This game has it all. Revenge. Pupil versus teacher. Divisional rival. National TV. It is the game of the week…at least on paper.
