Denver Bronco News- Is Josh McDaniels the right coach for the Broncos?
Filed Under Josh McDaniels | Leave a Comment
Still, McDaniels is not a universally liked figure in Denver and there are a couple of reasons for that. Number one being the battle he had with Jay Cutler that eventually led Cutler being traded to the Chicago Bears. Was this all McDaniels fault? Absolutely not, but he did share a good part of the blame. McDaniels let it be known that Cutler was available at the right price, which almost any coach would privately admit to. The problem that McDaniels had was that this information was leaded to the general public which made the incredibly immature Cutler furious. Could this situation have been resolved between Cutler and McDaniels….yes, it could have been but the Broncos knuckled under and let Cutler act like a punk and traded him. Pat Bowlen should be accountable for that and the trade could have been a terrific thing for the Broncos, although it is hard to let a franchise caliber QB go. They do not come around that often. Since the Cutler fiasco the Broncos have also had severe problems with Brandon Marshall, although it seems like things are getting a little bit better. What is McDaniels role in the Marshall situation? It is hard to say but one thing that is clear is that the Broncos are not going to let Marshall push them around the way they let Cutler push them around. Marshall probably will not be traded, at least this year. One of the issues with McDaniels is his age and his supreme confidence which comes off as arrogance not justified. After all he is a first year head coach that really hasn’t done much and right now is best known for his battles with Jay Cutler. But when you win your first two games, and your defense seems far better than what it was last year, people will have a tendency to cut you some slack. McDaniels is known as an offensive coach. He was the coordinator for the Patriots when they went undefeated during the regular season and set a single season scoring record. And that was the same year Tom Brady set the single season TD passes record and Randy Moss set the single season TD reception record. McDaniels is also the guy that turned Matt Cassel into a fairly solid QB for the Patriots last year when Cassel had NEVER started a single game in college or the NFL. It is obvious McDaniels understands offense and where to put people. But does that make McDaniels the right coach for the Denver Broncos? Well that is hard to say at this point but in our opinion McDaniels deserves the benefit of the doubt at this point. He is young, he is REALLy confident, he ruffles feathers…but he has the Broncos off to a 2-0 start, which is something very few people thought would happen. The Broncos do not have the talent at this point to compete for a title but is our feeling that McDaniels has the right plan and within a couple of years will have the Broncos competing for the Super Bowl.

When you mention Josh McDaniels to Denver Bronco fans you get a number of different responses, and many of them are not good. Well at least that was the case before the Broncos started the season out at 2-0.
