Pioneerof The Nile our choice to win the 2009 Kentucky Derby.
We won’t go into a total explanation for our picks…but this is what we like.
1. Pioneerof The Nile- A colt that can get the distance, has a stalking style, and is trained by a guy that knows how to win the Derby.
2. General Quarters- A great story here if he wins. He is improving and should get the distance.
3. Mine That Bird- Just a hunch this colt handles the track and runs well. Probably asking way too much for a win but a shot to hit the board. Borrel knows this track and how to win on it.
4. Papa Clem- Has the speed and running style to be there down the stretch. Looks to be getting better. A good shot to hit the board.

Can the Denver Broncos win with Kyle Orton as their starting QB? Most people laugh at that suggestion but with a closer look winning with Orton is not as far fetched as it may seem.
Why we think Denver can win with Kyle Orton as the starting QB
There is no question that as far as pure physical talent Jay Cutler has Kyle Orton beat by quite a bit. Cutler has a better arm (although Orton has a pretty good arm) and Cutler is much more mobile. But being a great, or even good, NFL QB is not about physical talent.. Many people consider Joe Montana the best QB of all time and physically most of the starting QB’s during the Montana era had skinny Joe beat as far as physical size and skill.
Things such as smarts, leadership, the ability to perform under pressure, and accuracy are many times more important than just physical skill. If you take a look at Jay Cutler through his first three years it is apparent he has all of the physical tools to be great…the issue with Cutler is his brain. Is he a good leader? Can he perform in the clutch? Can he perform well when things have not gone good for him. The jury is really out on Cutler when it comes to those things.
So on to Kyle Orton. He is a big guy, has a good arm, is smart, and is an excellent leader. He does not have the arm or mobility of Cutler…but does Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have the arm and mobility of Cutler? Of course not.
Orton has been on some horrible offensive teams that did not have much talent…and on top of that he was in a system that was very conservative. The theory in Chicago seemed to be to play it close to the vest and let the defense control things. Well that has worked at times in Chicago but it certainly has not been good for QB’s that want to put up big numbers.
Why do we think Orton has a chance to do really well in Denver? Two things: GREAT offensive talent around him and a coach that will put Orton is a position to do well. You simply cannot deny that Josh McDaniels worked wonders with Matt Cassel last year. He is also the guy behind the Patriots setting an NFL record for points scored in 2007. McDaniels knows how to coach QB’s and knows how to get his offense to score a lot of points.
Matt Cassel had NEVER started a game in either college or the NFL, and then comes in this year after Tom Brady is injured and is the 10th rated QB in the league with a QB rating of 89.4. When you consider that remarkable achievement you have to think McDaniels will do wonders with Orton, especially considering Orton will be throwing behind a really good offensive line. The Broncos should have a good running game. And the Broncos have a great set of WR’s. Orton simply has not had this type of talent, from the coaching standpoint to the the players, around him.
As many Bronco fans realized last year Jay Cutler has a horrible habit of throwing interceptions at the worse possible times. In defense of Cutler on some of those interceptions he was usually throwing from behind. The Broncos defense was horrible. But it still seems as though Cutler is a very undisciplined QB who just couldn’t figure out that taking small gains is better than turning the ball over.
The whole key to the trade of Cutler to the Bears will be how Orton plays, and if Denver can get two really good players from the two number one picks they received from Chicago. If Orton plays well and Denver scores with the two number ones…then Denver will have made a great trade.
If Orton bombs and the two number one picks are just average players AND Cutler goes on to be as good as many think he can be…then Denver will have made a huge mistake.
We think Denver made a great trade, not only because of the picks they got but because we think Orton will play really well.

Jay Cutler traded to the Chicago Bears and we are happy he is no longer a Denver Bronco. Cutler gets his wish and is shipped out of Denver…or did he really get his wish? It is hard to tell with this super talented but obviously confused QB.
Why Denver is better off without Jay Cutler.
For all of the talent Jay Cutler has he simply was not worth the problems he was causing and in the end run the Denver Broncos will be better off without him. Cutler has actually turned into a bit of a bizarre person. Taking a look back at the fiasco that Jay Cutler became there is plenty of blame to go around. But the majority of the blame is on Cutler himself.
It was pretty obvious that Josh McDaniels was not thrilled to have Cutler as his starting QB to begin with, but having said that things probably could have been worked out if Cutler had shown even a slight bit of maturity. But as many Denver Bronco fans found out as the season went along maturity is not a Cutler strong suit. Cutler conducted himself like a spoiled little brat and threw a fit every time something did not go his way.
Sure, he has great physical skill (but Jay your arm is not even close to as strong as John Elway’s arm) but does he have the mind to be a GREAT NFL QB? That will be something that the Chicago Bears will find out in the next couple of years. It is hard to say, there are many QB’s who had great talent but not the mind. When Mike Shanahan (the Lil Dictator) was fired Cutler demanded to be traded. When Jeremy Bates was let go Cutler wanted to be traded. Then when Cutler finds out that McDaniels was slightly interested in a trade involving Cutler to Tampa Bay and Matt Cassel to the Broncos Cutler threw a fit.
By all accounts the Broncos tried to console him and let him know he was still their guy and they wanted to work things out. But Cutler refused to attend the off season conditioning program (which was optional) and refused to attend any off season meetings. It is also widely reported that Cutler would NOT take calls from the Broncos, including owner Pat Bowlen himself, and that his agent formally requested a trade.
After Bowlen had had enough and publicly announced that he would trade Cutler, Cutler comes out and says he was sad it got to that point and that he was surprised Denver had decided so quickly to trade him! Is this guy for real? He WANTED the trade and then he says he is sorry it is happening? Jay Cutler either has a mental issue or he was just completely messing with the Broncos.
How can you demand a trade three times, refuse to attend the off season conditioning program, refuse to take calls and return calls from the guy that signs your checks, and refuse to take and return calls from your head coach and be surprised that Denver decides to trade you? How screwed up does a guy have to be to act this way. Jay Cutler has the physical talent to be a great QB but does he have the mental part of it?
Well with his recent behavior and his very poor performance down the stretch with the Broncos this season it would not be a stretch to say he does not. The Broncos are better off with Kyle Orton, two number one picks, a third round pick, and the distraction of Cutler GONE.

We suffer some bad luck in week 7 to go 2-2 for a season total of 19-9 for a still outstanding 68%.
Sometimes you get lucky as heck and win games you should lose, and sometimes you get bad beats. Well, that is what happened last week to stop us from going 3-1 for the week.
We had Tampa Bay -10.5 over Seattle knowing the hook (the .5) could be a problem. We messed this one up. We should have advised you to buy the hook but we did not…out fault, you have our apologies.
Things were looking great until Seattle scored a totally meaningless (not to the guys that had the Bucs -10.5) touchdown to make the final score 20-10 and make us seriously ill. These things happen but it is always frustrating when it does.
This week we are going to lead our selections off with the Dallas Cowboys -1. The Cowboys and Jerry Jones need a win badly, if they don’t get it here their schedule only gets more brutal. So on with the picks.
As always do not bet money you cannot afford to lose. Winning at sports wagering is not a sprint, it is a marathon. Stay patient and stay calm and ALWAYS bet the same amount on each game…unless you have a chase plan in place.
Dallas -1 over Tampa Bay
The Cowboys are in trouble. Romo is out, their defense is playing bad, and Owens looks like he could explode, and not in the good way. Explode like his head blows up. The Cowboys need this game so bad, much more so than Tampa Bay. Dallas is at home and all they need to do is win the game for us to push or win the bet. We’ll take the desperate Cowboys to win by seven or more.
Carolina -3 over Arizona
The Cardinals are not much on the road but they can really score. That is the only danger in this game. If the Cardinals go on one of their scoring sprees they could be tough here, but we do not think they will. Carolina is an up and down team but being at home facing a team that does not travel well…we’ll take Carolina and think they’ll win by a TD or more.
San Diego -3 over New Orleans
Both of these teams are all over the place and we usually don’t like to bet games where both teams are so inconsistent. The Chargers are all over the place but should be able to score consistently against the Saints. The loss of Bush is big for the Saints, he causes defenses so many problems. We like San Diego by at least a TD.
San Francisco -5 over Seattle
Seattle is awful. San Francisco is not much better. But Seattle has already lost to the 49′ers and that was at home. The game is now in San Fran and the 49′ers have a new coach. We expect them to come out and play an inspired game. San Fran by 10 or more.
Denver Broncos are on a bye! Thank goodness.
Since Denver is on a bye we don’t have to try and predict anything with this sorry ass team. But we will take our shots anyway. It is time for Lil Mikey The Dictator to walk the plank. And if smart assed Jay Cutler doesn’t get his act together he can follow Lil Mikey.
Denver is a mess and it doesn’t look like it is going to get turned around any time soon. Maybe the bye week has come at the right time. Maybe someone will tell Big Armed Jay that he is not great yet. Either way, the rest of the season better get better or Lil Mikey needs to go.

The problem with the Denver Broncos
Filed Under Bronco News | Leave a Comment
The Denver Broncos have many problems but the two leading problems are Mike Shanahan and Jay Cutler.
First we will start with Mike Shanahan. We will get to Jay Cutler and his punk attitude later, but to start with we will focus on the Lil Dictator and why he needs to go.
These are the facts concerning Mike Shanahan. He has won two Super Bowls. He has won ONE playoff game in 10 years. He has signed so many bad players it is hard to name them all. He has drafted so many bad players it is hard to name them all.
Mike Shanahan is the head of the Denver Broncos. For the last 10 years they have been mostly mediocre. Is it completely Mike Shanahan’s fault? Well it is not exactly all his fault… but most of his fault. Why? Because in Denver it is the Lil Dictator that makes 99.9% of all decisions and that is where the problem lies.
There is no real oversight with Lil Mikey. He fires coaches when he wants to. He drafts the players HE wants (remember Maurice Clarett?). He signs the free agents he wants. His record in both areas, drafting and signing free agents, has been HORRIBLE.
The problem with Lil Mikey is not that he can’t coach…he can. Give him the talent and he can get the job done. The problem with Lil Mikey is that he has far too much control. The Bronco’s have very little talent on defense…and whose fault is that? It is Mike Shanahan’s.
The Bronco’s have more talent on offense but are led by a QB that spends more time on yapping, and thinking that he is already great, than actually being great. Jay Cutler is the second problem with the Denver Bronco’s. The QB position must be a position where leadership comes from. The Bronco’s simply do not get that with Jay "I have a great arm" Cutler. Instead they get a guy that pouts, a guy that sits on the bench and looks like he would rather be sleeping, and a guy that obviously cannot read defense.
Cutler is young and still has room to improve…at least that is the hope. So for now we will give Cutler a bit of a pass, but no more passes to Lil Mikey. For far too long Mikey has run off coaches because THEY did not produce results. Well Mikey, what about YOUR results?
You are the one that hires the coaches. You are the one that drafts the players. You are the one that signs the free agents. You are the one that fired the general manager. The buck stops with YOU Mikey.
Unless Pat "Mikey is my coach for life" Bowlen wakes up, Denver will NEVER get back to the promised land. Mike Shanahan has far too much control and apparently does NOT have to produce results.
Take a look at the drafts from 2000 until now. Almost all of them have been a disaster. The 2006 draft looks like a real good one if Cutler pulls his head out of his ass and starts to play like HE thinks he should. If not it will go down as a good draft because of Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler.
Almost every other draft has produced NOTHING. The 2008 draft shows some promise but we will not know for sure until a few years from now. The issue with Lil Mikey is that he can do whatever he wants and apparently doesn’t have to show results.
Most coaches get fired if they only produce one playoff win in 10 years. Not Lil Mikey. Jake Plummer must be laughing all the way to the handball court. Greg Robinson must chuckle when he sees another defensive coordinator hired and fired.
Larry Coyer must also get a smile on his face when he sees the Broncos defense play so horribly bad. Jim Bates must be somewhere smiling because of the Broncos defensive problems. He, like all the rest, was a scapegoat for the Bronco’s problems last year.
The biggest issue with Denver is LACK OF TALENT and that begins and ends with Lil Mikey Shanahan.
If the Bronco’s do not seriously improve over the last nine games of the season Pat Bowlen MUST seriously consider firing Shanahan. How many more years of this mediocrity is he going to put up with?
Bill Cowher is out there. Mike Holmgren is going to be out there. Those two guys would probably be a much better fit in Denver than Lil Mikey. And what the Bronco’s really need is a general manager that has some real control.
Right now Shanahan makes all the decisions in Denver. He has the final say. No one gets drafted or signed unlese he says so….and that is the problem in Denver.
Mikey, YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB DONE NOW!

Week Seven NFL Selections…Denver Broncos lead the way
Filed Under Week 7 NFL Selections | Leave a Comment
We go 3-1 in week six for a season total of 17-7 and 71%! In five out of six weeks we have gone 3-1 or better.
This week we have four more selections with the Denver Broncos leading the way against the New England Patriots.
Remember, the key to winning at sports wagering is to be patient, this is a marathon…not a sprint. Only wager money you can afford to lose and always stay calm!
Denver Broncos +3 over New England
Denver has had a lot of success against the Pats over the years and that was WITH Tom Brady playing. The Patriots are not a good football team. They are slow on defense and without Brady have no consistent offense to rely on.
The Broncos have not played well in two out of their last three games mainly because of the erratic play of Jay Cutler. We expect him to come out aggressive against a weak Pats secondary. Look for Denver to score close to 30 and keep the Pats to around 24. All we need is for Denver to lose by two or less….we think they win the game outright.
Chicago -3 over Minnesota
The Bears are playing some decent offensive football and that is about all you will need against the Vikings. The Vikings simply cannot score enought to keep up with the Bears. Look for Chicago to attack the Vikings through the air and then establish the running game. Chicago’s defense should be good enough to hold the Vikings to less than 20. We think Chicago gets 24 or more.
Tennessee -9 over Kansas City
Games like this bother us a bit because it looks like the Titans should destroy the Chiefs…but the NFL has a way of making you look like a fool. Tennessee just has too much for a horrible Kansas City team. Look for the Titans to dominate on the ground and then for their defense to totally suffocate the Chiefs offense. We like the Titans by at least two touchdowns.
Tampa Bay -10.5 over Seattle
The Seahawks are a pretty bad football team….even with Lady Hasselbeck playing. Well, he ain’t playing and that just makes the job easier for Tampa’s defense. Look for the Bucs defense to directly set up three to four scoring opportunities for their offense.
The Seahawks defense is bad, their offense is worse…and their special teams are not much…Holmgren probably wishes he had retired last year. We like the Bucs in a blowout. Oh ya, the SeaChickens travel horribly to the east coast and this is the longest trip a team can make. NBC must be sick that this is the game they televise.

Week Six NFL Selections
Filed Under Week 6 NFL Selections | Leave a Comment
Another 3-1 week, we are now 14-6 for the season for a strong 70%!
This week we will offer another four picks with the Saints leading the parade.
We will say this every week…winning at sports betting is a marathon not a sprint. Bet the same amount on each game, only bet money that you can afford to lose, and stay focused.
New Orleans -7 over Oakland
The Saints have actually been playing pretty solid defense and their offense, even with injuries, has been good. The Raiders are not that bad of a team talent wise but everything else is totally screwed up. The Saints by 14.
Tampa Bay -1 over Carolina
We were on Tampa Bay -1 in a similiar situation two weeks ago against Green Bay. We like the Bucs for the exact same reason against Carolina. Tampa Bay is tough at home. The Panthers are not exactly world beaters on the road. Tampa Bay to do enough to just win….by two or more.
Washington -13 over St. Louis
The only danger in this game is that the Redskins don’t show up. If they do show up and are reasonably focused they bury the Rams. The Rams are horrible. The Redskins might be the second best team in football right now. The Skins by 24.
Green Bay +1 over Seattle
Yes, Green Bay has lost three in a row and Rodgers is hurting but how in the heck are the Seahawks the favorite in this game…especially with Hasslebeck not playing? We just cannot see the Pack losing four in a row. They are the better team even if Hasslebeck was playing for Seattle. The Packers by 6.
Denver -3.5 over Jacksonville
This selection is not one of our best bets but done as a favor for those of you that want our opinion on the Broncos games. Last week Denver might have played their best overall game. They played tough defense and Cutler didn’t make any big mistakes. Look for Denver to get aggressive with their downfield passing attack. Jacksonville can be beat deep and Denver has the ability to go deep often. Denver by 6.

Week Five Selections
Filed Under Week Five Selections | Leave a Comment
We go 3-1 last week for a season total of 11-5! Four more today.
Last week we continued our hot run with a 3-1 week. We are now hitting 69% for the year!
Remember, wagering on sports is a marathon…not a sprint. Take your time, be patient, bet the same amount on each game, and don’t be betting money you cannot afford to lose.
Green Bay -3.5 over Atlanta
We absolutely love this game if Aaron Rodgers is going to play. As of this writing, Saturday afternoon, Rodgers is expected to play. Atlanta has been awful on the road. Green Bay comes off of a tough loss to a very good Tampa Bay team. Green Bay is at home where they play well but the bottom line is that they are at least 10 points better than Atlanta….even without Rodgers playing.
Tennessee -1 over Baltimore
Tennessee could be the best team in football…they have a very talented defense and an offense that is MUCH better with Collins at QB. Baltimore comes off a very tough loss to Pittsburgh which was a very physical game. It is also a short week for Baltimore which never helps. All we need is Tennessee to win by two…we think they win by at least seven.
NY Giants -7 over Seattle
The Giants have a tendency to play down to their opponents and this could happen in this game. The Seahawks are not a good football team and when they go east they are awful. Look for the Giants to stop the Seahawk running game and make Seattle’s goofy QB beat them. We don’t think he can. The Giants do what they want on offense and win by at least 10.
Miami ƴ.5 over San Diego
We don’t expect the Dolphins to rout the Chargers like they did the Patriots, but we do expect them to keep this game close and maybe win it. The Chargers have some issues…that is for sure. The Dolphins can be tough at home and play close games. We like the Dolphins plus the points in a tight game.
We have decided to make a Bronco pick every week. This weeks Bronco pick is NOT part of our recommended plays, we are giving it for the fun of it!
Denver -3 over Tampa Bay
Let’s get real…the Broncos are going to be a hard team to bet on this year because of their ridiculously bad defense. Shanahan needs to face reality…he has very few talented players on defense. This defense game up 33 points to the pathetic Kansas City Chiefs! And don’t start with the deal about Denver’s offense causing their defense problems because of the turnovers. That is nothing but B.S..
The Broncos defense cannot stop the run, they cannot stop the pass, and they cannot stop teams on third down. They are a group of clowns with most of them having a hard time starting for anyone else.
This might be the week that Dumervil actually tries to make a pass rush move to the inside. This might be the week that Webster actually is in the right place at the right time. This might be the week that Denver’s safeties actually make a play. And this might be the weak that Bly actually covers someone…but we doubt it.
This could be the week that most of you end up going out with Jessica Alba…ya, right.
Having said all of that, we expect Denver to be sharp offensively as long as Cutler realizes he has someone other than Brandon Marshall to throw to. Hey Jay…when you see your tight end running down the middle of the field with no one within 10 yards of him…throw him the damn ball!!!!
Denver gets hot offensively and Interception Griese throws a couple to Denver. Denver wins by seven….but don’t bet on it!

NFL Week Four Selections
Filed Under Week Four NFL Selections | Leave a Comment
Hoping to bounce back from a tough week 3, Tennessee leads our selections for week 4.
Last week was a tough one with some tough beats, but that is the way the NFL works. Some weeks you get the bounces and some weeks you want to pull your hair out.
We are currently 8-4 for the season, which is exceptional, but we could easily be 10-2 if not for a late melt down by the Chicago Bears and the Denver Broncos defense taking a vacation in the second half of their game last week. It happens…we move on.
Tennessee -3 over Minnesota
Tennessee is the real deal. They have a very tough defense, a good running game, and they now have a QB that can manage the game, make plays, and not hurt them. Tennessee should be able to control the Vikings running game which means Ferrotte has to beat them…we don’t think he can. Tennessee by 10.
Arizona -1 over New York Jets
The Jets looked awful last week and now face a team that can move the ball up and down the field. Look for Arizona and Warner to throw all day long. This could be a high scoring game and we think the Cardinals do enough to pull out the win.
Carolina -7 over Atlanta
Carolina is much tougher than what the Falcons have beaten in their two wins. Carolina will focus on stopping Turner and Norwood and making Ryan beat them. We don’t think that is going to happen. Carolina by 14.
Tampa Bay -1 over Green Bay
At first we did not like this game…but after looking closely at this game we are going to go with the Bucs. They have a tough defense, they are tough to play in Tampa Bay, and they have enough offense to at least just win. Tampa Bay by at least three.
